Carly Blankenship

Carly Blankenship is a ceramic artist working in Austin, Texas. She began her ceramic journey in high school taking as many pottery classes as possible. Carly received her BFA in ceramics from the University of Iowa, however, her life and career veered from clay after college. After a 16 year hiatus, she returned to her clay roots in 2023 and continues to find her artistic voice, rediscovering the amazing medium.


Her functional home wares reflect her love for color, texture, and geometric designs. The patterns are created using tape resists and decorated with mid-fire satin glazes. Once the glaze is applied, the tape is removed leaving a satisfying tactile experience as the crisp lines of glaze intermingle with the bare clay body. The once-dreaded task of glazing has now become her favorite, and most time-consuming, piece of the puzzle.
