As an artist, clay is my favorite surface for imagery. I work a lot with sgraffito, carving controlled lines through colored slip, and an inlay technique that is known as Sanggam or Mishima. I love the smooth texture of porcelain, and how colors show up on it. I’m primarily a wheel thrower, and like to marry functional pieces with detailed surface images. I’m particularly interested in the plants and animals found in Central Texas. I’ve also been playing with the idea of bringing a collage type style to some of my surfaces, and teaching myself how to make sprig molds.
